Heading Into October On The Trails

tagged as Community

We’re rolling into the heart of Autumn and the riding doesn’t get much better!

As September wraps up this weekend, we’re looking at a great time to ride here in West Michigan. Cooler temperatures and a healthy amount of rain mean our trails will be in the best shape of the year. Even with shorter days, there’s still plenty of time to ride before the snow falls.

With shorter days, we did want to remind everyone that if you’re riding after work, it’s a good idea to head out with a light, just in case. It can get darker quickly, especially if it’s cloudy, and packing even a small light can help keep you and other trail users safe.

Of course, fall also means we should be seeing plenty of rain. It’s really important that all trail users check head to make sure the trail they’re planning on is open for use, and when in doubt, to exercise caution. Trails like Wahlfield can take a lot longer to dry out, and with cooler temperatures and gray days, it’s always safe to add an extra few hours to what it would normally take to be good to go.

And you’ll have another place to ride in October, too. The redesigned GR Bike Park is scheduled to be completed this weekend, so make sure you check back for confirmation and keep a night or two open next week open to go check it out! The GR Bike Park project could not have happened without donors, sponsors, and Allies like you. This is the second of three phases, and we’re so lucky to have your support as we build something all of Grand Rapids can be proud of.

Remember to check current trail conditions, and connect your Strava to help submit the reports that help others preserve our trails.
