Global Fat Bike Day (take 2)- December 8

‘Tis the season! It’s Global Fat Bike Day on December 1.  However, the forecast is calling for 100% chance of rain, wind and possible thunder.   So, we’re celebrating with big tires, great beer, and a laidback ride with all our pals on Saturday, December 8th!

The Midwest has quickly grown into the epicenter of fat biking, and here in West Michigan, we like to think we’re a pretty big hub of pretty big tires. With the USA Cycling Fat Bike Nationals, a slew of fat bike races and even whole series in the running, and some incredibly well-maintained places to ride, we’ve earned the right to be one, if not the only, Fat Bike Capital of the World. We’re also extremely lucky to have a number of bike shops that have catered to fat bikers and have learned a ton over the years about the bikes, the trails, and how to prepare both to ensure a really fun ride.

As great as summer and autumn are for riding, we’re always eager for the leaves to fall and the snow to fly so that we can roll out the fat bikes. There’s just something about riding in the snow that makes even our favorite trails feel totally new again.

To kick off this wonderful time of year, we’re teaming up with big WMMBA supporters City Built Brewing for Global Fat Bike Day. Each year, riders around the world celebrate obese-bikes by heading out for rides of all kinds; we’ve heard of 100km rides, bandit races and, in much warmer climates, beach rides followed by swimming and barbecues. This year, we’re going to combine some urban riding, singletrack, gravel roads, and park raids for a fun, laidback cruise that should be a good time for all.

Show up to City Built by 9:30 am for coffee and drinks, then we’ll clear out for a mixed terrain, giggle-paced stroll through Grand Rapids. After the ride, we’ll head back to City Built for great food, cold beer, and insightful conversation. All speeds and abilities welcome, and if you don’t have a fat bike, don’t worry; we’d love to have mountain bikes and gravel bikes along for the ride, too.

Stay up to speed on our Global Fat Bike Day event on Facebook, and make sure you ‘Like’ the page to see all the fun stuff we’re cooking up this winter!
