June GR Bike Park Update

GR Bike Park

First off, welcome to summer! We kicked off the new season with a great Alliance meeting last night at the GR Bike Park. We took time to ride, meet some fresh faces to the organization, and talk about some of the big projects on the horizon, as well as plenty that is already underway. Of course, the biggest thing we’re working on right now is the fundraiser for the GR Bike Park. For almost two months, we’ve been collecting donations that will be put toward some much-needed upgrades that will offer a better experience for more riders, as well as features that should make the park even more valuable for runners, hikers, and other trail users in the community.

Things are moving along quickly; IMBA Trail Solutions is already under contract to build in late August. We will likely see some construction in the weeks preceding construction as we scrap the BMX track and begin to build features. The City of Grand Rapids has generously donated $15,000 to get the ball rolling (or the wheel turning, if you will).

We’ve got a lot of other cool stuff cooking, too. Other elements of the Phase 1 rebuild include:

-a kids strider pump track

– an intermediate pump track

– a skills course with wooden features

– a fresh up of the jumplines

– new singletrack layout with jumps, rollers, and berms

Our current fundraiser is looking a little further afield. Phase 2 will focus on adding all-new jumplines, as well as a dropzone with the singletrack.

That fundraiser has really performed well, but there is still a week to make the most of Pure Michigan’s offer to match! We’re at just over $21,000, which would bring us to $42,000; with your donation and the donation of a few friends, who knows, we could hit our goal of $50,000 total!

From there, things get dirty, which is a very good thing! Phase 3 is all about soil. We’re looking for 30,000 cubic yards of dirt by donation. This soil will be to build enough elevation for a dual slalom course that will hook up with the singletrack.

Want to donate? Donations are matched until July 2, so tell a friend, too!

Make your donation right here!

We are just days into the new year, the snow finally showed up (hopefully, to stay this time) and time for the January, WMMBA Member Meeting!

Many of us made a few resolutions for the new year, ride more, ride at night, get involved with the WMMBA, etc…
We want to help you keep those resolutions.

This Wednesday night, we will be meeting at the Indian Trails Golf Course. With the new snow on the ground, Indian Trails will have their groomed fat bike course open and ready for the season and we would like you to help us ride it in.

Afterward, the club house will be open, with roaring fire to warm you back up, beverages available on tap and yes, there will be food!

Central District Cyclery will be serving up the food! They’ll have roast pig, vegetarian beens and all the other fixings as well!

Central District Cyclery will also be contributing $15 towards any new WMMBA membership! We’ve spoke with a lot of you who are on the fence about becoming a WMMBA member and CDC would like to make it a bit easier to jump on board. We’ll be there to answer questions about membership and tell you about some of the great things the WMMBA has lined up for the year.

So, grab your fat bike, grab your friends, bring your appetite and join us on Wednesday, January 14th, 201512216679-standard-1. Ride time starts at 6pm, food starts at 7pm and meeting time is 7:30 (ish).
Lights and helmets are required on he course, so bring them, please.

Don’t have a fat bike? There will be demos on hand! Don’t want to ride? Join us for the meeting! See you then!
