June GR Bike Park Update

GR Bike Park

First off, welcome to summer! We kicked off the new season with a great Alliance meeting last night at the GR Bike Park. We took time to ride, meet some fresh faces to the organization, and talk about some of the big projects on the horizon, as well as plenty that is already underway. Of course, the biggest thing we’re working on right now is the fundraiser for the GR Bike Park. For almost two months, we’ve been collecting donations that will be put toward some much-needed upgrades that will offer a better experience for more riders, as well as features that should make the park even more valuable for runners, hikers, and other trail users in the community.

Things are moving along quickly; IMBA Trail Solutions is already under contract to build in late August. We will likely see some construction in the weeks preceding construction as we scrap the BMX track and begin to build features. The City of Grand Rapids has generously donated $15,000 to get the ball rolling (or the wheel turning, if you will).

We’ve got a lot of other cool stuff cooking, too. Other elements of the Phase 1 rebuild include:

-a kids strider pump track

– an intermediate pump track

– a skills course with wooden features

– a fresh up of the jumplines

– new singletrack layout with jumps, rollers, and berms

Our current fundraiser is looking a little further afield. Phase 2 will focus on adding all-new jumplines, as well as a dropzone with the singletrack.

That fundraiser has really performed well, but there is still a week to make the most of Pure Michigan’s offer to match! We’re at just over $21,000, which would bring us to $42,000; with your donation and the donation of a few friends, who knows, we could hit our goal of $50,000 total!

From there, things get dirty, which is a very good thing! Phase 3 is all about soil. We’re looking for 30,000 cubic yards of dirt by donation. This soil will be to build enough elevation for a dual slalom course that will hook up with the singletrack.

Want to donate? Donations are matched until July 2, so tell a friend, too!

GR Bike Park Fundraiser EXTENDED!

tagged as Blog,Fundraising,Grand Rapids,Volunteer

Our Grand Rapids Bike Park Fundraiser has been extended by a whole month! There’s still time to help us build the GR Bike Park into an even more valuable resource for riders, runners, families, and the whole community!

That’s right, we’ve got another three weeks of matching donations from Pure Michigan. For every dollar we raise between now and July 2, it’ll be matched! It’s a huge help in our goal of raising $50,000 to make improvements to the park that will make it more valuable to more trail user groups.

We want to show you our vision, too. We’re hosting an Alliance meeting on Monday, June 25th at the Bike Park to ride bikes, talk about all the work we’ve been doing this summer, and to show you how the proposed changes will enhance the trail and park experience for everyone. Got a friend who runs, hikes, walks, or rides? Then they need to stop by and see what we’re planning to bring to this great place to get outside, get active, and live healthily.

The project and fundraiser have been all over the news over the past few weeks. No doubt you’ve seen it covered by Fox 17 and other media outlets, and we really appreciate all the help in spreading the word! If you’ve already donated, consider sharing this post to a friend, a bike club or team, or a friend who loves to get outside.

There’s a lot to be excited about, and we’re just as excited to get started. Donate to the GR Bike Park rebuild and let us get our hands dirty!
