Wahlfield Park is quickly becoming a local favorite in West Michigan, especially for those looking for a scenic, accessible trail that suits the skills of nearly any ability.

If you’re ever on the north side of Grand Rapids, take a turn to Alpine and find a neat trail just off M-37. It’s an easy spot to hit on the way home, making evening hours the hot time for people to access it by bike or by foot.

There is a cross country circuit hand-built by Alliance volunteers, and Dirt Artisans added 3 downhill flow trails in 2017 raising the total distance to about 6.5 miles. As a new trail, there is so much potential to shape this network into what local riders need and want. As a result, the future of Wahlfield Park is exciting to WMMBA and everyone involved!

If you spend more than a bit of time on the trail, you’ll notice that many of the sections and segments carry names that sound more than a little delicious. That’s because Perrin Brewery helped cover plenty of early expenses that helped bring this trail to life, and you’ll always find their thumbprint on the heart and soul of Wahlfield’s downhill runs.

You can check out more about the trail on Trailforks.com. Another thing you’ll really like about Wahlfield is the great updates on trail conditions from the trail’s reporters. Especially during this freeze and thaw cycle, having almost daily information on the state of the trails makes planning your rides so much easier. We’re working to bring this level of reporting to all Alliance trails! Current trail statuses are listed on the Alliance Homepage

At the moment, we have 577 rides counted on the trail, with prime riding time in August, but there is plenty of momentum this year; there are 60 trail reports already filed for 2018!

If you’re looking for a trail that’s accessible, fun, and you always know the state of the trails, make sure you check it out!

Well, some folks say that summer is over…not so fast! Still lots of time to enjoy the warmer weather!
That is why our next member meeting will be an outdoor event!

Monday, September 8th 6-9PM

This time we are heading to Wahlfield Trail – WMMBA! We’ll hit the trail for a lap or two starting around 6PM. Them head to the pavilion for some grill time. Brats, burgers and other goodie will be served! And hey, if you have a favorite dish to pass, bring it along.

Also, we will be talking about a few of the cool things the the WMMBA has coming up. Plus, we will have a special guest that evening. Pattijean McCahill from the Kent County Parks Foundation will be with us to talk about the role of the KCPF, how to increase awareness and participation of mountain biking in West MI. Also, she’ll outline a new acquisition, and brainstorm on a capital campaign to complete Wahfield sooner. That’s a lot of good info!

So, bring your bike, bring a friend, BYOB, maybe a chair and whatever else and join us.
