PRESENTED BY: THE WEST MICHIGAN MOUNTAIN BIKING ALLIANCE
Riding season is upon us so trail building days at Merrell have changed a bit this month. We plan to meet on Wednesday nights starting on May 9 and will be working from 5:30-8:30 pm. Hopefully the change will bring more volunteers as we could really use some support. There is a lot of work yet to be done to get this trail ready to ride. Can you commit to at least one of these dates? There may be some additional opportunities as need arises. Be sure to check on facebook or at this site.
Please meet at the gate to the transfer station and we will go back to the trail site as a group. Since we go back together, please try to be at the gate by 5:30 otherwise it may be difficult to find the group. Bring water, gloves and (as spring heats up) possibly bug spray. This is a great trail for older kids but there is quite a bit of hiking involved so younger kids may get pretty tired.

Join us for National Trail Day on June 2nd! Bring your gloves, water, and maybe some bug spray and check out this new trail before it opens. Trail day will be held rain or shine so come dressed ready to work. Lunch will be provided for this trail day. If you are unable to make this one, check out one of the other trail days in April. See the WMMBA calendar for the schedule but typically Monday evenings from 5:30 to dusk or Saturday mornings from 9:00 am until noon. May dates will be coming soon. It’s a great opportunity to meet other people to ride with. There’s usually a variety of work for all ages, anything from running heavy equipment to tossing sticks off the trail. Hope to see you there.
Come help us work on the trails! We will be trimming, bench cutting, armoring, bridge building, ribbon removal, trash removal and more!
Opening day is getting closer and you can really start to see what the finished trail is going to look like. Please join us.
Bring gloves, water, boots, and bug spray.
Saturday June 2nd from 9 am – 1 pm.
Merrell will provide lunch and drawings for $110 Merrell Gift Certificates!
Everyone who attends will receive a National Trails Day/Merrell Camelbak water bottle.
To keep things focused, this meeting is limited to the WMMBA board and advisory board members. The board meets on a monthly basis to review important topics and proposals, review trail conditions and projects, and focus on events and fundraising. We bring these topics back to the members in a meeting every other month. Our next member meeting will more than likely be on July 9th but check back to make sure. We haven’t determined a location yet because July is a great time to get out and ride……group ride perhaps with discussion following.
On the agenda so far are:
1. Trail Coordinator Budgets
2. State Games Race and other upcoming events
3. Trail counters and/or surveyors
4. IMBA World Summit
5. MMBA Leadership Retreat
I’m sure additional topics will come up over the next few weeks but if you have any suggestions on additional concerns for your WMMBA board, please let us know. Feel free to email: marleahb@gmail.com and we will attempt to get it on the agenda for an upcoming meeting.
Michigan’s first 100-mile mountain bike race! The Lumberjack 100 will once again utilize a 33-mile loop through Michigan’s beautiful Manistee National Forest and the Big-M Ski Area. The Michigan style single track; composed mostly of hard pack trail, occasional sandy sections, and fast rolling terrain offers twists and turns that demand constant power, and total concentration as the trails quickly turn to nothing more than green blurs of forest. (If you’re expecting easy, fire-road coasting, look elsewhere!) Ninety percent of the 33-mile, 3-lap race is comprised of this single track that will eventually push racers over 9,000 feet of total elevation gain.
From the pro/elite racers, to those that will find victory in just surviving a race like the Founders Lumberjack 100, the post-race meal, Founders Ale and awards has also made this a must-be-there event. In addition to enjoying the catered meal; there will also be post-race prizes including a Cannondale 29′er frameset, Velocity wheelset and other bike schwag awarded to random race participants.
Registration was initially thought to be sold about but wait….We have 49 spots still available and we will re-open registration next Saturday March 10th at Noon EST until they are gone. Hmmm, 49 spots available and 376 entries sold out in 11 minutes or so. 49 spots should be gone in a minute. Mark your calendars, set your alarm and GO!
