It has been a very strange winter in west Michigan, and even that description doesn’t do it justice. The snow has been more fickle and sparing than in seasons past, and temperatures have made riding the trails a bit tough to time. We’re really lucky to have so many informed mountain bikers, and we want to say thanks for respecting the vicious freeze and thaw cycle!
This weather probably has you at least partially thinking of a season where things will only be getting warmer and greener. While we’ve got a few months ahead of us the first signs of spring are actually on February 2! That’s when registration opens for the 31st Yankee Springs Time Trial, and it means warm weather isn’t too far away.
Before you tune into the big game, make sure you’re on the internet at 10 am and make sure you get your spot locked down for the first MMBA Championship Points Series stop of the year and our biggest fundraiser on the calendar. Proceeds from the race are a huge part of our planning and can often play a vital role in what we take on over the course of any given year. Proceeds stay right here in west Michigan, helping us to build, maintain, and protect trails across the region.
Signing up early gives you a competitive edge, too. The order of registration serves as the start list; the earlier you sign up, the higher up the start order you’ll be, which means there will be less traffic on the trail. It might only save you a few seconds, but with the flying times and incredibly close results we’ve seen in years past, a single second can always make the difference.
Add Sunday, February 2 to your calendar and tell a friend to sign up; it takes all of us to support the trails, and the Yankee Springs Time Trial is an absolute institution in our community. Whether you’ve done all previous 30 editions of the race or you’re excited to take on your very first, ‘The Devil’s Soup Bowl’ offers an inclusive, challenging, and fun way to kick off your singletrack race season. Additionally, make sure you follow Yankee Springs Time Trial and the Yankee Springs WMMBA page on Facebook for trail news, conditions, and other updates!
